“You should stop words and letters, and learn to withdraw and reflect on yourself. When you do so, your body and mind will naturally fall away, and your original Buddha nature will appear.” – Dogen.

The title arises from a series of three studies from Glasgow University’s Media Studies Department in the 1980s. (A long time ago, so I may not have gotten the details right here.).They analysed the content of theTV news over periods of time, then published their results. Revealing and rather depressing.
“Bad News
“More Bad News
“Really Bad News
Oddly enough, their work never made the headlines. 😛

Alas, it seems to be a mixed bag, full of various slants, opinions, perspectives (and cover-ups)… even if a news media made a sincere effort to get at the truth it’s probably impossible….

Then also, beyond all the things you mention, comes the question of what we are being directed to look at/hear/think about (with the implication it is important) … and what is not mentioned at all. 😦

Great point – the most important news is often buried in the back pages of the newspaper, or a brief mention (if any) in other media. And vice versa….

Yes! But… do we really want to know the whole story…?

Oh yes, good conversation there! It also depends on what one deems to be ‘important’…

I prefer to decide that for myself rather than leaving the “news” to do it..
