Each Of Us

EACH OF US

Upon his decease
They found, clearing out his things, this envelope
Addressed “To whom it may concern”

Each of us is a PLP
A Public Leaning Post
A Poor Lonely Person

As a Public Leaning Post
I give each of you help and acceptance
And this is my Love

As a Poor Lonely Person
I ask each of you for help and acceptance
And this is my Humility

Amidst the dark and stormy seas of my pain and passion
I cling to the raft of my heart
And this is my Integrity

Among the dark and silent hills of my inner landscape
I shout “Hello” and listen to my own voice’s dying echoes
And this is my Humanity

There is a time for speech, a time for action
A time for silence and stillness
And this is my Wisdom

And as I strive to honour each moment as it is
And hold these qualities in mind
Perhaps I approach Creativity

Pride And Prejudice: Tanka

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE

They said not a word
For not a word need be said
A cloud of silence
Always accompanied them
Others looked on bathed in awe

A Guide To Awkward Questions

A GUIDE TO AWKWARD QUESTIONS

When you’re asked a question
Telling the truth is tops

Though it can be scary
Sometimes even unwise.

Lying? Best avoided
For several reasons.

Distraction works wonders.
Else maintain a silence.

Night In The Desert

NIGHT IN THE DESERT

Silent witnesses
The stars of this cloudless sky
Like a string of pearls

Tiny incidents
Where ungoverned chance had
Drawn her here and there

Looking back she saw
Not chance but evidence of
A greater pattern

Darkness: Shadorma

DARKNESS

Whenever
Eclipse is total
I retreat
To the sky
Close all the doors and windows
And watch the clouds

Wilder Than Us

WILDER THAN US

“All Is One” we’re told
Check it out – Little required
Silence and stillness
Lead to pastures beyond our
Wildest imaginations

A Tanka In Autumn

A TANKA IN AUTUMN

Pox on verbiage
All these dragooned syllables
Listen closely as
The sound of a falling leaf
Declares “nothing to declare”

Life Doubled: Senryu

LIFE DOUBLED

These shaded feelings
Why did we not express them?
Words cannot describe

Mahakasyapa

MAHAKASYAPA

Not a word spoken
“Pick up flower, subtle smile”
Message clear enough

Open Secret

OPEN SECRET

Droplets a-sparkle
Wink in the sudden sunshine
Nothing more to say
