What?
WHAT?
If God is a verb
And the world is an adjective
What is the subject?
And what of beauty
When the beholder
Has no I?

The last stanza in a short, short poem is amazing. The first stanza is worth pondering.

This started out being two separate ideas, then I suddenly saw the image of a ring of mirrors reflecting and repeating one another away into an infinity of infinities and realised the two ideas were reflections and extensions of one another: one encompassing statement/imagination/reflection/inquisition.

Quite the enigma. This poem will stay with me for a while….
You know, I get the answers in the 1st stanza then the 2nd is where the enigma comes in.
Brilliant!

In the phrase “the subject under discussion” the “subject” is the “what” that is being questioned, the “object”.
In the basic sentence unit (subject -verb – object) the “subject” is the who/what that is doing the “verb”ing.
If the subject and the object are identical, then maybe you are the sentence you are reading (whoever that is).

I like this, Ben. Although the first stanza is over my head I think, the second one is really great!

I am glad you found this memorable; it’s only a re-post from The Book Of Guff.
Sorry about all these little tidbits. I am working on some more substantial pieces, honest. 😉

I simply love the way you play with words!
your explanation of the subject-object identity gives a punch to the pun in the word “I”…. only a beholder without an “i” can see the real beauty or can he? Interesting!
