Opinion As Opiate

OPINION AS OPIATE

We call it the truth
Made up as we go along
So quick to protect
Then again why not relax?
Let uncertainty buoy us

Shore Thing

SHORE THING

Wary of recklessness
In thrall to fear of risk

Unwilling to abandon
The certainty of shore

Unsure of uncertainty
One will not travel far

That is the one thing
One may be sure of

Head Scratcher

HEAD SCRATCHER

Left home, went due West
Crossed two mighty oceans and
… Wound up in the East!

Fellow Travellers

FELLOW TRAVELLERS

Comes for us all
The time to roam
To wander abroad
Till we find a new home

Here’s to companions
Happy sharing our exile
Looking forward to the day
They once again enjoy our smile

Woman Of The Sea

WOMAN OF THE SEA

Sail on then, my lady, whatever befall you
Bent but unbroken, unbowed by the squall
Weatherbeaten cheeks, chiselled and carved
By years of wild wind and waters spent defining
Your signature inner diamonds set shining in
Spangles of teardrops and sparkling laughter

Sail on then, till that far harbour find you
Enfold you in its loving arms once again
No more call to brave the callous blast
Home the weary traveller, home at last

Who Am I? What Is This Place? Who Are All These Others?

WHO AM I? WHAT IS THIS PLACE? WHO ARE ALL THESE OTHERS?

Travel your own journey.
Travel toward your own destination.

That is the essential.

It always was.

You were born alone.
You will die alone.

All this you already know.
I am telling you nothing new.

Companions,
with or without sex or commitment or marriage,
is at bottom a side issue.

Don’t fall into simply using others,
and certainly don’t fall into letting them use you.
Always remain true to your ultimate journey and its goal.

Measure all relationships against this:
Are they helpful (EXCELLENT);
entertainment (OK, IF YOU DON’T LET IT TAKE OVER);
or obstacles (DANGER! AVOID).

Travel well.
