Morning Sitting: Double haiku
MORNING SITTING
Three times three is nine
Three nines are twenty-seven
Pigeon on repeat
In the far distance
An American war bird
Slashes the still air
Nature And The Unnatural
NATURE AND THE UNNATURAL
That which is so obvious,
so moving
to many of us
seems though invisible
to those
whose eyes are fixed
solely on shekels.
Terminal II
TERMINAL II
He does the shopping now
Getting out is too much
But we don’t mention that
At least there are flowers
The new snowdrops are out
As the fresh year spins on
Words like splendour, wonder
Set amongst all this pain
Sick At Heart (7a)
SICK AT HEART
All the signs
Erupting pustules
Orlando
Las Vegas
Middle East a sarcoma
It’s clearly Stage Four

The Verdict
THE VERDICT
She returned from the doctor’s surgery.
There was a silence. Then another. Then.
“He says it’s terminal,” she said.
“Life is terminal,” he replied quietly.
