Beware

BEWARE

If you spin a web
Just to snare you yourself will
Become entangled

Nesting Dolls

NESTING DOLLS

Life’s a tragedy
Caught fast within their costumes
The actors expire

Backstage real life breeds
More down to earth deceptions
Still rôles; still acting

Counterfeit

COUNTERFEIT

Let’s pretend we’re in love
I won’t tell if you won’t
We can fool everyone
Even one another

Wholesomeness (A Four By Six)

WHOLESOMENESS

Everyone praises Spring
Summer and Autumn while
Winter gets a bad rap
Ego got in the way

Poetry challenge #4: Seasons

It’s More Bad News I’m Afraid

Telegragh journalist blows the whistle.

Well Bugger Me Sideways

WELL BUGGER ME SIDEWAYS

He said he believed it beneath me.
“Never overestimate me,” I replied.

His response: “Never underestimate
…..how much you may be overestimated.”

But then, given the excellent ongoing snow job
The poor bugger had really no chance.

N.B. In the UK, the phrase “Bugger me sideways” (or a variation of this) can be used as an expression of surprise. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bugger#Etymology)

Love Letters

LOVE LETTERS

Two souls incarnate corresponding
By carefully constructed billets doux

(Words: two-faced, don’t you know)

A torrent bursting its irksome banks
Cleaves bare the dismembered heart
Same time constructing barricades
Sturdy barriers hastily constructed

Recipient digests, reflects, ponders
So? Mere high-handed dissemblance
Or else simply a crass legerdemain?

Do either really know the outcome?

The last laugh’s for the onlooker
