The Cage

THE CAGE

The days shorten while the nights lengthen
Then the nights shorten while the days lengthen
Then the days shorten while the nights lengthen
Then the nights shorten while the days lengthen

Setting up some kind of zero point or other
Measuring, counting, recording year by year
Offers us the pale illusion of understanding
The option of conjuring up some kind of god
Who created all of this in seven days (or not
Depending on your own preferred conjuration)
Meanwhile – or meaninglesslywhile – god forbid

The days shorten while the nights lengthen
Then the nights shorten while the days lengthen
Then the days shorten while the nights lengthen
Then the nights shorten while the days lengthen

  1. Purpose
    or result?
    And of what?
    Let others worry
    about that, since
    doing so is,
    after all,
    a cage.

  3. Smiles… the Earth Breathes in and out… Lengthening and shortening. πŸ™‚ Joy and Sorrow, Night and Day… Freedom and Prison… All depending upon which side of the perception we view our world from πŸ™‚
    Happy NEW YEAR dear Ben..

  4. Your writing requires all senses to open and be aware. Your thoughts stun me, Ben. Your insight would help, if you choose, that is..

  7. It’s a mobius strip of continually waiting for the dark to change turns with the light. Longer terms frustratingly allowed. The dark doesn’t belong to the daytime when the outside is able to be seen. When nighttime is the drama queen . all the demons and creatures don’t need the trees to hide behind any longer. Looking out a window when the darkness is in control feels like something is watching . always watching. I think there is something out there. If it’s good enough for the X-Files . well who am I to deny the Truth. The Dark is often out of order while the daytime can be just as scary depending on how you see it. Enough said. My computer made me write this. It started talking to me and wouldn’t shut up & kept reading your text and mine and wouldn’t let me add an ‘is’ then it made what I wrote disappear. Back to normal temporarily. And how about you? ⚑❣🎢

    • “And how about you?”

As you can see I missed out on a whole chunk (what a delightful sounding word – cue Miranda (Hart) and The Vicar of Dibley) of posts around Christmas – Wedding Anniversary – New Year. Over the period under question up and down but mainly up. Just busy treading water.

The old blacknwhite yinnyang stuff you know. πŸ™‚
