Many people believe
(Having been taught so)
That love and hatred are opposites

But in my experience this is not correct
The true opposite of love is fear

Fear is the ground
From which hatred grows

Love opens us up
Fear closes us down

We no longer see
So we imagine

And hate what
We think we see

To overcome our hatred
We must first overcome our fear
Of our fellows and of ourselves

About Ben Naga

The Spirit that graces me with its passing has no name and stems not from thoughts and words, though it gathers them up as it flows, but from feeling.

  1. Well spoken, Ben, and so very true. We hate what we fear, and we fear what we don’t understand. And we’ll never understand if we don’t open up our minds and hearts.

  2. One of your best offerings, at least in my opinion. Well spoken and what truth there is in this!

  3. Yes, what we fear we hate, and yet, perversely, the way to enlightenment is to confront those fears…
