Who is this so glad
To have been understood so
As if it were so?
Methinks too many have nothink to say.
What I had in mind here was the imagined “ego/identity”.
“In philosophy, idealism is the group of philosophies which assert that reality, or reality as we can know it, is fundamentally mental, mentally constructed, or otherwise immaterial.” – Wikipedia. This of course includes Buddhism and Tao.
Thanks for the clarification, Ben. Where would you say the higher mind (superconsciousness) fits in to the idealist philosophies? Or does it? Of course that probably depends on the definition of such higher states…
For sure. And then again who defines something as “high ” or “low”. Another thinking.
“If you desire emptiness this desire will fill up the emptiness.” – Lao Tzu.
Maybe rather than the word “high” (semantics – ack!) maybe the word “expansion” is better. We both agree there’s an awareness beyond what the physical brain can perceive. I like to think of consciousness as a spectrum, which expands octave after octave, into “realms” that we can’t even comprehend except maybe through what the mystics call “cosmic consciousness”. In that state it all becomes oneness – a unity, where we can be conscious of everything from the physical to the most divine and ineffable – and exist as a “One” instead of a “one”. Of course only a few have ever attained this…. but it might be the future destiny of all humanity – if we don’t destroy the earth first. (…heavy sigh…)
Thanks for the discussion, Ben. 🙂
P.S. Sorry I just now found your reply to my comment – it didn’t show up in my notifications.
That happened to me just the other day. The trouble is of course that we can’t be checking on all our posts and comments everywhere. I may have a little OCD but there’s a limit. 😛
I hear ya! 🙂 (With the difficulty of checking all comment replies, and the OCD frustration.) If I should ever seem to ignore one of your comments or replies by not even a “like”, it probably means I never saw it – but hopefully will eventually!
We appear to follow the same procedure in dealing with WP communication. 🙂
Ben, at least one of my replies in this thread has disappeared. Am wondering if you ever saw them….? One was a long reply from the 17th (that preceded the P.S.) Had the word “semantics” in it. Well, no matter, my friend…. (But the “Sheldon” in me is going nuts! 🙂 )
Certainly not in the “Spam” box. The NSA perhaps? They’re pretty paranoid. (To put it mildly.)
