In Time

You call it democracy
But in fact it is a mockery
For whoever is elected
Is already pre-selected
Sifted through a sneaky net
Of stinky bribery and threat

Your power and fame so delectable
Leaves ninety-and-nine of us still sceptical
So anonymously we strive to preserve
What forthcoming generations deserve
Your flak-suited minions clobber us
Yet we shall in time emerge unanimous

This is a “Three Word Wednesday” contribution.

Seed words: “Bribery”, “Clobber”, “Skeptical”.

  2. A clever use of the prompts.

  5. Rise up….one day…hopefully…a fine call to arms in this poem

  6. You did a great job with the prompts, Ben, and your words are many of our thoughts. Loved the hopeful ending, too!

  7. it sure seems like that sometimes

  8. Clever use of the prompt, and nice use of rhyme. Sometimes it does feel “pre-selected,” I agree.

  9. So much corruption & greed everywhere we turn – We’re doomed.

  10. Write on! It’s good to read your poetry again, the freshness of it all…

  11. I have had enough politicians and politicking to last me the rest of my life! This says it quite well. 😀
