Numerals On A Spree
NUMERALS ON A SPREE
8, 10 and 6 got drunk again last night
And you know how it is after a few
8 stumbled, fell over and lay there prostrate
As if paying overawed homage to Infinity
10, as usual, got rather too full of herself
And declared loudly, “I am the Digital Goddess”
6 stayed silent and simply sat there, crestfallen
Embarrassed to have turned into a limp flaccid 9

Love your quick wit, Betty. 😀
It’s not really about numbers as such though. It’s a poem depicting the different types of reactions folk have to alcohol (or to reality … “In vino veritas”). Some open their heart to wonder and appreciation of the ineffable; some become more extroverted and inflate their (defensive) ego shield; some become more introverted and lose themselves in anxiety.

So true – I’ve seen all of those reactions, and more. (There’s also the Jekyll & Hyde type – nice, affable guy turns into a monster after a few…. I guess that could be depicted by a “2”….)

As I was building the piece on generally accepted shapes and references I was limited as to what I could cover, but you are quite right of course in saying there are other emotional attitudes that alcohol invokes, and aggression is sadly an all too common one.
