NAYSAYER

Search myself for error, for there’s no one pure,
hesitate to despise them, as no doubt I should.
Are they the beasts I imagine? I can’t be sure.
Or just fools gone to the bad trying to make good.

That’s right, we’re not really bad, just misunderstood.
We hedged our bets but didn’t mean to break the bank.
You wanted mortgages; we did the best we could.
Rules of Monopoly; “I am, therefore I wank”.

Our underwritten balloon race too big to fail.
It’s free market forces. How dare you call it greed!
Here’s my card: “Get out of jail free”. We’re out on bail
and we have all the pepper spray we’ll ever need.

About Ben Naga

The Spirit that graces me with its passing has no name and stems not from thoughts and words, though it gathers them up as it flows, but from feeling.

  1. Absolutely! We are all accountable.
Thanks for writing this one. It seems to be a theme on a few blogs today???

Odd! I’ve been struggling with this one for a while, and only cured my dissatisfaction when I lobbed off a lot of dead wood. It actually started up being nothing to do with its eventual subject at all. 🙂

  2. You said it all, and you said it well! Rationalizing, justifying, manipulating, greed feeding – they’re so good at that.
(Argh, don’t get me on my soapbox….)

  3. I don’t think their intentions are all bad to begin with, but then greed steps in and takes over! Unfortunately. And it grows like a cancer…!

  4. A real gem Ben! And this is great timing. Today our country’s debt is equal to our output or GNP…and the debt continues to increase while we sleep whereas the GNP remains relatively stable. These fools you speak of certainly have played their part in the mounting debt. What we see playing out before us is those taking more than they are themselves are worth resulting in a vacume or black hole — the collapse of the ponzi-scheme is looming. But then again, I am far from pure and lack much knowledge, so I and you could be wrong.

    • Should we include military expenditure here? These in “control” were clearly weaned on games of Monopoly and Risk and never grew up; overgrown playground bullies who believe they can “Rove” around the planet doing whatever they like and hang (or waterboard) the consequences.

  5. That was a good one. Nice structure. The theme was good too. Very topical. Thanks.
