About

The more I thought about what to write under “About” the less comfortable I became about writing anything at all. The present is an uneasy compromise. A bit like relationship or democracy really. Hopefully anyone who has been here before I erased previous attempts has a poor memory. None of it was too important or interesting anyway, and I’m quite happy it’s gone the way of the dodo. If you do want to know more about “About” read the poems and odd bits of writing and the “Book Of Guff“. Then there are the clues to glean from scattered “Comments” of course, and it’s not too difficult to track down an e-mail address. Sorry, I don’t do the dreaded Facebook or Twitter for obvious reasons. (If you don’t know why that’s obvious I probably can’t explain it to you.) I hope you will enjoy exploring, and if you do decide to communicate, I’ll see you there.

  1. The wisdom of age manifests in the personality of your poetry and probably the kind of person you are. Wish you all the best!

  2. I found you through Randall’s blog and I am so glad I did, Ben. I will be taking a look around, and I know I love what I’ve seen so far… To tell you the truth, my blogroll needs a serious cleanup and I think today’s the day. Out with the dead wood to make room for new (to me, at least) exciting writing. Go well.

  3. I haven’t really had the time to check out most of your poems, but now that i do have the time, i am just going to check them out one by one because what i have seen so far is so awesome.. It’s amazing.. :-)

  4. Hi, Ben. Thanks for subscribing. I’ve been reading your poems and I am impressed. I’ve added you in my blogroll. :D

  5. Hello Ben, thank you for finding me and sharing with me your piece on “Millie and Me” in relation to my poem “Wanted: Obsessed Male” Turbo is my first dog, a childhood dream come true; every moment together is special to me – those connections to certain animals are indescribable yet so inspiring and so very valuable.

    • Millie generally lives with my step-daughter but stays with us fairly regularly. I wrote and posted my piece on 16th November. It was such a coincidence to find your poem that I thought I would “Comment” on yours as they complement one another so well. I thought your readers might enjoy another facet of the human/canine relationship, and I especially liked that the genders were swapped! :)

  6. You have a beautiful, enviable style of writing. I am terrible at poetry myself, but I really love to read it! I look forward to reading more from this blog. Thank you so much for sharing your work.

    • Thank you for your appreciation.

If you want to develop a style of writing that you feel more comfortable with, the only advice I can give you really is to keep reading others’ and lots and lots of practice. It’s also good to have a decent “shit detector”, but without being over-critical of yourself. :) Rereading a piece several times, especially over a period, often allows you to see things that could do with either changing or removing before you launch it into the world.

If you want to get serious, there are always writing courses, and/or you can look around for a local writers’ group to join. You might also think about becoming a “follower” at http://suehealy.org.

      Good luck!

  7. I love the wisdom in your words… a modern day Solomon, perhaps??? :) I look forward to learning from you Ben Naga. Blessings ~

    • What a lovely comment to find after a very frustrating day when my e-mail client was down. :) . Thank you so much for your kind words, BlueGem. If you do come across anything helpful in your life then that is a bonus for me. :) My poetry is a bit if a hodge-podge really. If you are interested in attempts at wisdom, try “The Book Of Guff” instead.

  8. Your blog is amazing, i always enjoy every single post, that is why i have nominated you for the versatile blogger’s award. :-) to accept it please do click here http://chicpress.wordpress.com/2011/12/15/the-versatile-blogger-award/

  9. Ethel and I have nominated you for a Versatile Blogger Award. You’ll have to go to fourwindowspress if you don’t know about it, and if you follow the instructions you’re a winner. We are mainly trying to let you know how much we honor you and your work, so you may or may not chose to accept the award. That’s up to you, but we certainly think you are worthy of more than this one gesture of thanks for you and your poetry.

    • Well, thank you so very much for your kind words and your nomination. I have already accepted a previous nomination back in November. However, I certainly appreciate the nomination. Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year and great happiness in 2012.

  10. Nominated you for the liebster blog award, check this out for more details:

    http://artepiphany.wordpress.com/2012/01/16/im-back/

  11. I liked your old style and I like your new…Your poetry makes me stop and think, is easy to read, profound and animated. (I don’t do facebook or twitter either)

  12. Fun fact: If you haven’t received the 7×7 blogger award yet it’s yours if you want it ;) http://fhhakansson.com/2012/01/17/new-awards-and-updates/

  13. Well, I love you already because you don’t do Facebook or Twitter–and apparently you’ve edited your “about”, and you expect people to “READ” what’s here if they’re interested in gleaning information. Also, if Betty Hayes Albright gives you a nod, I sit up and take notice–she and I are new “sisters-of-the-sea”, having met here in blogville.

Am very curious about the Rudolph Award–mainly because I didn’t know awards would be a constant part of blogging at WP. I’ve been asking around as to where they all originate–and can I just dream one up and start handing it out too???

Okay, I’ll have to come back for a longer read another day–the headache is making typing impossible. Regards to you–you’re welcome to visit my blog (no promises). God bless you today!

  14. Hi Ben!
Just in case you weren’t aware of it, I nominated you (on Jan. 18th) for the Genuine Blogger’s Award. Sorry, I didn’t notify most of the people on the list (due to lack of time) but was hoping everyone would eventually see themselves in that post. Hope you’ll go back and check it out.

    • I am glad you found some interest in my musings, maryrose. Perhaps I shall continue to interest you, in which case I hope to see some more comments from you in the future. :) Meantime I will have a look at yours, although I must admit to being engaged in an ongoing battle between reading others’ words and fashioning new verbal structures of my own and have to work hard at not being overwhelmed by the bounty.

And. just out of interest, how did you come across this e-log?

  18. I think it was on the FierceBuddist blog….

    I will usually always comment…LOLs
I know the feeling of that ongoing battle…
I am in the middle of it too…
but it all works out….somehow ….

    • Hello there. How’re things?

      • I think of brilliant things to write about for my blog but I just am too tired after chasing my toddler around all day. But I am good. A post coming soon. There might be a second wind blowing…

      • Patience is a virtue, they say. We can practice it together. :P

Oh, and a little tip. Jot down a few notes about your idea. Otherwise you’ll forget it by the time you have the energy to compose a post, and that is REALLY annoying. I learnt that one the hard way.

  19. Hi, I’ve nominated you for the Kreativ Blogger Award because I love reading your posts. You can see the details about the award on my blog. Keep it up!
